I have been asked to decorate my sister-in-law’s baby shower!  What is everyone’s all-time favorite party decoration?  Bunting banners!  They’re so festive and cute!  The theme of the party is little foxes and I found the perfect fabric for it.

Got out my little triangle template for the job.  Not only useful for quilt triangles!  They make perfect bunting banner triangles!

We’ll need the HeatnBond Lite for the appliques we’re about to make!  You can buy these online in small rolls at a time, rather than off the bolt in a crafts supply store.

Once the fabric has been bonded onto the adhesive, I carefully cut out each individual little fox.  Just turned these guys into cool appliques!

How to make tissue paper pom poms-3

Here’s an easy DIY tutorial to make tissue paper pom poms!

How to make tissue paper pom poms

Materials Needed:
Tissue Paper
Ribbon
Scissors

Tissue Paper Pompoms

Step 1:  Take 6 sheets of tissue paper (8″ x 12″ or 14″ x 18″) and fold lengthwise like an according.  Tie a knot in the middle with a ribbon to hold in place.  Round off each end by trimming.

Step 2:  Fan out the accordion and start separating the sheets on one side by gently pulling each individual sheet apart.  Repeat on the other side.

Once you’ve completed those two easy steps, you get this beauty here!

Alternatively, you can trim the tissue paper to have a pointy end instead of a rounded end.  The results are just as pretty.  It reminds me of a lotus blossom.

These pom-poms are really fun to make and you can never just make one!  Try experimenting with different sizes as well. They are so addictive!

Crochet Baby Blanket with Scalloped Edging-4

Over the next few months (and beyond), I’m going to be blogging a lot about my niece.  She’s in the oven right now and is due in June.  I am so excited about her arrival that lately, all I want to do is start baby projects to give to her when she’s finally here.  Here’s my latest gift for her.  A crochet baby blanket.

Here’s Tesla Cat trying to play with the ribbon when I was trying to attach it to the blanket.  The more I moved the ribbon, the crazier he became.  I just had to set it down and step away… (and reach for the camera instead).

Here are some more detail shots of the blanket.

I really like this stitch pattern.  There are slits in between each stitch groupings, so it’s not as dense as it looks.  It’s still considerably light in weight and absolutely snuggly soft!  My niece Kayla will definitely keep warm wrapped up in this cuddly blanket.

My favorite part of this blanket is the scalloped edging.  Look at those cute little scallops!  Oh my goodness!

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend.  It’s a new month and the weather is great.  I hope to have many more new projects to share with you!

Thanks for stopping in today!

My sweet sister-in-law, Molly, is pregnant and she’s due in June!  It’s a really exciting time for all of us, though it is especially exciting for her side of the family, since this will be their first grand child.  (My son stole the title of “first grand child” for our side of the family.)  Molly’s mother has been digging up some precious family heirlooms to hand down to Molly to keep for Baby Kayla.

Among the beautiful treasures that Molly has shared with me were cute little hand-sewn dresses and blankets.  My favorite is this small crochet blanket.  I love how uniform and simple it is with its soft pink trim.  It’s finished off with a delicate picot edging, one of my favorite stitches.  It’s so precious and beautiful.

I was so inspired to make one exactly like it that I stole her blanket and studied every single stitch.  Here is my version in purple.

I even finished my blanket with a picot edging, my favorite way to finish a crochet blanket.

I did make a few changes from the heirloom blanket to my version of it.  My trim isn’t as thick and also the corners aren’t as rounded like that of the heirloom blanket.  I can’t handle wide-rounded corners.  I am OCD and my life needs 90-degree angles in it.  So my blanket is only slightly-rounded with right angles on it and all is well again.

I liked this pattern so much that I’m going to start another crochet blanket tomorrow with different colors.  Photos to be shared soon!

Thanks for stopping in today.  Make it a beautiful day!

  • Jessica - I checked the Etsy link and it said this item is no longer available. I love the look of this blanket, and a dear friend is having a baby soon. I was wondering if there is still a way I could get this pattern. Thank you so much.August 18, 2020 – 8:52 pmReplyCancel
