Finished Quilt Size: 46″ by 57″

I was thrilled when I was contacted to create a custom quilt using the same design from my Vintage Paris Floral Quilt.  She found photos of that quilt floating around the internet and she managed to track me down and have me recreate the quilt for her 6-month old daughter.  I love making baby quilts!  Something so soft and so pretty SHOULD be wrapped around a little tiny baby to keep them warm and happy!

This quilt is made using the designer fabric Printemps by Three Sisters for Moda Fabrics.  Lots of soft and pretty pastel colors.  Perfect for a little girl.

Here are some of the work in progress photos:

Now time for the photo shoot of the finished quilt.  This cat was at my feet, just waiting for his chance to hop on the quilt as soon as I stepped away.

The backing fabric could very well be my all time favorite fabric.  It’s called “Primrose Linen” from the same Printemps line.  It’s so subtle, soft, feminine, and has a wonderful vintage feel to it.  It’s simply lovely.

All packaged up and ready to head out all the way to New York to meet its new owner.  May this quilt keep her warm and happy for many years to come.

Thanks for visiting Pinwheel Cottage today.  Have a wonderful day.

The quilt consists of 7 blocks across and 8 blocks down.  Rotate the blocks so the small squares match and touch at a diagonal.  Repeat block pattern throughout layout and sew together the quilt top once the desired layout has been achieved.

Next, finish the quilt!  Make a quilt sandwich with quilt top, batting, and backing. Machine or hand quilt as desired and bind using 6 strips of 42” x 21⁄2” fabric sewn together.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!  You can see more photos of this quilt here!

Elementary Quilt-3

The Elementary Quilt

Finished Quilt Size: 45″ by 55″

My friend Allan is someone that I’ve known since we were both three years old.  He lived in the house across the street from mine, and we rode our trikes around on my front yard in our pull-up diapers.  Ah, childhood memories…

Well, we’re all grown up now (and out of diapers) and he has a little boy too.  His name is Aaron and he is always so cheerful and sweet!

Aaron’s 2nd birthday was coming up and I wanted to make him a special little quilty gift to keep him warm this winter.

I chose the designer fabric line “Lakeside Gathering” by Primitive Gatherings for Moda.  It’s super cute with prints of tiny stars, arrows, stars, moons, and anchors.  Perfect design and colors for a little boy.

2015-11-17_0003Elementary QuiltI found the backing fabric at Joann Fabric.  Little anchors to match the nautical theme of the quilt top.  Extra sweet because the top of the anchors are hearts!  Awe.  The binding is also cute.  Navy blue with little gold triangles.

He asked why I haven’t made him a quilt in a while.  Awe.  I’ll add that to my list of things to do.

It’s always such a satisfying and rewarding feeling when I finish a quilt and I get to fold it up into a little package.

Happy 2nd birthday, little Aaron.  We love you so much!

I’ve written a tutorial on this quilt pattern.  See the step-by-step quilt tutorial here!

Thanks for stopping in today!

Lots of Love,
